This is a theoretical post. While I agree with some of your points, I find losing all your gains in 10 years and gain it back in a few is kinda extreme. According to SnP data, the worse rolling 10 year return is -3% p.a, so that's pretty far away from losing all your investments, and that is if you enter precisely during a crash. On historical returns not guaranteeing the future, that's true to some point, but I refer to data as guidance, otherwise what else do we have. my two cents.
